| Summiting the Grand Colombier! So Happy! |
We had another great day riding together as a team, riding hard, staying focused, and getting it done. I'm so proud of all of my teammates today because not only did we really tackle a huge day, but we did it on barely any food!
For anyone who knows me, you know I'm a junk food addict! I can plow my way through a bag of Pirate's Booty like it's nobody's business. I also love me some potato chips and candy bars. But today, my iron stomach had enough. Enough with the Twix bars, enough with the crappy expired cereal bars, enough with the rotting fruit that's been sitting in the car for 4 days... My stomach said F-this, try again!
Unfortunately, of all days, the sandwich that I built at breakfast out of our breakfast buffet got dropped and trampled before we even got on the bikes. It was like watching it in slow motion... noooooooooooooo... I think that would have made it a better day. Food is everything out here and we are struggling.
| Beer Hand-Up anyone? |
During the climb, Kym was a badass and took a beer hand-up, and when she got to the top, all I could think about was how good that beer looked because it was something so drastically different than what we eat on the bike day in and day out. Plus I love beer, so it looked good anyways...
We had a girls meeting tonight and decided that it doesn't matter anymore about anything, we need to feed ourselves better. So bakeries it is! Woohooo, my favorite thing in France. The though of a quiche is making me drool right now! If it adds some extra time to our day, so be it, we need to take care of calories and my diet today of 2 mushy bananas and 5 candy bars just isn't cutting it.

The battles continue. And the surrounding negativity still exists our here. But with everyone's kind messages through this blog, through email, and over twitter and Facebook, we're forming a shield that keeps up protected. Wow, I'm really losing it here. Totally cracked from today and I'm taking about kindness force-shields... time for sleep!

I say NO to negativity!! Keep going keep going!! You're doing it. Plus, start eating some good food, come on, you're in France.
Caley says, "people on the internet suck!" so whoever is giving you shit, just ignore it!!!
Also, we live here in Annecy!!!! If any of you, and I really mean any of you, need a place to chill and cook some food, and do laundry and relax, just come over!
You girls are kicking serious ass! :)
There's no reason to eat bad food when you're in France. I can imagine it's tough to find with limited time, but it's important when your bodies are working so hard! Keep up the great work. Everyone I know is pulling for you 6 ladies!
you are awesome! keep it up, ignore the stuff you don't need to hear. and for god's sake - enjoy the french bakeries!!!!
Negative people suck.
Wow, I'm so sorry that there is negativity. Y'all are ROCKING IT!!
French Bakeries rule. ENJOY!!
Keep on keepin' on.
Kristen, everything that you and the team are doing out there to succeed is amazing. A lot of people, especially your teammates (from what we can tell on the Internet), truly appreciate the strength that you bring to the team every day. I personally appreciate your enthusiasm for climbing (I can relate) and your wonderful positive attitude. Despite coming to the team late, you have proven to everyone that you are a valuable member of the team.
I have read your recent posts about the negativity getting you down. That is disappointing, and if this is coming from external sources on the Internet, I am wondering if you have also been seeing the tremendous positivity out there too. For instance, every time peloton magazine shares one of Heidi's blogs on Facebook, there is great positive response in the comments section. The naysayers there quickly became outnumbered and now just keep to themselves. I'm doing my part to contribute to the positivity, and I feel like I'm part of a greater morale support team when I see the support and encouragement coming from other men like me in addition to the women saying how inspired they are by the team. This feels very encouraging, and if you and your teammates have seen these comments, you would feel the same.
Although many out there on the Internet such as me do not know anyone on the team personally (and therefore are not expected to do anything), please know that so many of us are trying to be ambassadors of your cause, create a positive atmosphere to surround the Rêve Tour, and simply show our support. We take time out of our days to follow everyone's blogs and give our morale support in writing when we could just watch silently from afar. We do this because we believe in all of you and your greater cause. We truly want the team to succeed and for the endeavor and your cause for women’s cycling to get the respect it deserves. I truly hope that the fantastic support and encouragement far outweighs any negativity that could get you down.
This response has become a full-length letter, I realize, but I really feel like someone needed to say all of this. Please share this with the team if you think the team needs it. Thank you to the entire Rêve Team for everything; you’re elevating our sport, inspiring both men and women, giving us something to believe in, and giving us a greater appreciation of women’s cycling. We’re cheering for you!
